TENNIS NOTEBOOK: ROAD TOUGHER FOR QUARTZ HILL.

Byline: Erik Boal BOAL Basic Organization of Associated Labor (Yugoslavia, socialism)  Special to the Daily News

The Quartz quartz, one of the commonest of all rock-forming minerals and one of the most important constituents of the earth's crust. Chemically, it is silicon dioxide, SiO2.  Hill girls' tennis team knew the path toward a potential Southern Section Div. IV title would go through Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities. .

After two easy victories to open the playoffs, visiting Quartz Hill (20-1) will face the overwhelming favorite to win the championship.

``I'm I'm

not real happy about the draw, but if you're going to win (a Southern Section championship), you're going to have to beat them all at some point,'' Quartz Hill coach Bill Lenaway said before the playoffs began.

``We just want to give it a good showing.''

Lenaway's team finished ranked No. 10 in the Div. IV coaches' poll, but has disproved the critics by reaching this level.

Despite winning its 16th consecutive Golden League title, Quartz Hill had to face No. 8 Whittier in Thursday's first-round contest, defeating them 17-1. The Rebels then handled a strong Oak Park team 13-5 in Saturday's second round.

``It's mind-boggling,'' Lenaway said of the lack of respect. ``Our only loss all year was to Valencia, the No. 5 team in Div. III, and we get the No. 8 team in the first round. It just doesn't make sense.''

Behind sophomore Ashley Litchfield and the doubles team of Rori Jones and Carolyn Smith, the Rebels have built momentum entering the match with Beverly Hills, which features experienced tournament players Tova Hausman and Tessa Tran.
