TENNANT NAMED ONE OF 100 BEST

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- TENNANT (NASDAQ-NMS: TANT), a Golden Valley-based manufacturer of industrial floor maintenance equipment, has been selected along with six other Minnesota companies as one of the 100 best companies to work for in the United States according to business journalists Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz in their new book, "The Best Companies to Work for in America" (Currency/Doubleday). TENNANT, a recognized leader in the quality movement, was selected for its success in integrating quality programs into its corporate culture. The authors noted TENNANT's efforts to put a "distinctly human face" in the work environment by encouraging positive feedback for jobs well done; eliminating trappings of power, and backing up philosophies with policies that assure a workplace free of harassment -- all elements of a quality work environment.
TENNANT was chosen in a process that began in late 1990. The authors interviewed nearly 400 companies and selected 150 for site visits. They met with employees, toured offices and facilities, and spoke to CEOs.
The companies named in this year's edition were selected based on criteria ranging from pay and benefits to advancement opportunities and pride in the workplace. TENNANT and other selected companies shared a respect for their employees as reflected in their corporate policies and procedures. Also important was job security and other efforts to make employees feel more secure.
Other companies in Minnesota included in the 1993 edition of the "100 Best Companies to Work for in America" include Apogee Enterprises, Cray Research, Dayton Hudson, General Mills, H.B. Fuller and 3M.
