:WANG) today announced that two divisions of the Australian telecommunications giant, Telstra Corporation Limited, have purchased a total of $2.3 million in imaging and workflow systems and supporting services from Wang to maximize customer responsiveness and productivity. Telstra Super Pty. Ltd. will use Wang's OPEN/workflow and OPEN/image software to improve its pension case processing. Telstra Corporate Health, Safety and the Environment will use OPEN/image to enhance its data access and management capabilities. Both divisions of Telstra have contracted consulting services with Wang to develop their respective applications.

Telstra Super Selects Wang Workflow and Imaging to Improve Pension Case Handling

Telstra Super administers one of the largest corporate pension programs in Australia, managing over 93,000 client cases. The organization will replace its mainframe-based pension administration system with integrated workflow and imaging software from Wang to more efficiently store and access pension case files, and improve business-critical procedures that impact overall service and productivity. Using OPEN/workflow, customer service representatives will be able to accept, forward, and manage all pension systems inquiries automatically, significantly reducing customer response time.

"Wang's integrated imaging and workflow software provides distinct advantages over competitive offerings because of its client/server architecture An environment in which the application processing is divided between client workstations and servers. It implies the use of desktop computers interacting with servers in a network in contrast to processing everything in a large centralized mainframe. See client/server.  and OPEN/workflow's easy-to-use interface capabilities, enabling greater end-user involvement in the development process," said Mark Wylie, systems manager for Telstra Super.

"The ability of the new workflow and imaging application to quickly and easily locate a file at any given point in time presents significant benefits," commented Wylie. "Customer service is improved as client inquiries are dealt with more rapidly and efficiently, and division managers have the ability to analyze and measure the business processes, identifying bottlenecks or losses in performance."

This group will migrate its existing VS-based Wang imaging system to Wang's OPEN/image software to accommodate future growth and expanded user accessibility.

With the newly developed OPEN/image application, employees will use a Lotus Notes Messaging and groupware software from IBM Lotus that was introduced in 1989 for OS/2 and later expanded to Windows, Mac, Unix, NetWare, AS/400 and S/390. Notes provides e-mail, document sharing, workflow, group discussions and calendaring and scheduling.  front-end to access legislative, environmental, health, and safety information stored as images in a broad range of databases located throughout the company.
