TEKTRONIX EMPLOYEES SHARE NEARLY $4 MILLION; STRONG SECOND-QUARTER FINANCIAL RESULTS MEAN ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR EMPLOYEES

WILSONVILLE, Ore., Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix Inc. (NYSE: TEK) announced today that nearly $4 million will be distributed among all regular (non-commissioned) employees, most of whom live in the greater Portland metropolitan area. This is a result of Tektronix' newly implemented Results Share program which rewards employees for achieving the business plan on a quarterly basis. Employees will receive their checks in time for the holidays. "This is good for our employees, but it's also good for our local community," said Jerome J. Meyer, chairman of the board and chief executive officer.
In a letter to all employees, Meyer congratulated employees on a job well done. "We're making progress toward our long-term target performance in virtually every part of the company. Our sales are up, our earnings are up, and we're meeting our plan," he said.
Meyer referred to Tektronix' quarterly earnings for its second fiscal quarter of $8,433,000, or 28 cents per share, up 5 percent from last year's second quarter. Net sales were $333,485,000, up 10 percent from the prior year's second-quarter sales of $303,203,000. Customer orders also increased in the quarter by 13 percent, from $299 million to $339 million.
"Tektronix is continuing its process of repositioning itself to successfully compete in the global environment of the 1990s. We've already made significant changes, resulting in positive effects to the bottom line.
"Tektronix has made the tough decisions and taken the difficult actions, and will continue to do so. We're committed to continuing to share our success with employees."
Tektronix is a leading manufacturer of electronics products and systems in the areas of test and measurement, computer graphics and television systems. Revenues for fiscal year 1992 totaled $1.3 billion.
