Business/Technology Editors

MILWAUKEE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 5, 2002

TEKLYNX(R) International, the world's leading developer of software products for the AIDC (Automatic Identification and Data Collection or Capture) Capturing data electronically by scanning bar codes or alphanumeric codes (OCR, MICR), by reading magnetic stripes or by wireless means. See AIM, bar code and RFID.  marketplace, today announced WEDGEWARE(TM) Pro data acquisition and delivery software. WEDGEWARE Pro software addresses the challenge of inserting data from data collection devices, such as bar code scanners, magnetic stripe A small length of magnetic tape adhered to credit cards, badges, permits, passes and tokens. The tape is read by magnetic stripe readers incorporated into ATMs, identification readers and payment terminals.  readers and electronic scales, which typically use a serial port or TCP/IP TCP/IP

Any industry that requires sharing bar code reader See bar code scanner.  data with any Windows application can benefit from WEDGEWARE Pro software. Laboratories, R&D facilities, manufacturing operations Manufacturing operations concern the operation of a facility, as opposed to maintenance, supply and distribution, health, and safety, emergency response, human resources, security, information technology and other infrastructural support organizations. , quality assurance and testing, and other operations that use scales and balances, ph/electrochemistry meters, measuring machines or calipers and gauges can easily insert data into software programs. Retailers, bar code and online order entry systems, as well as warehousing, shipping and receiving operations can also benefit.

It extends traditional wedge data collection capabilities by using the Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition engine to massage the data and transfer information to ActiveX and Object Linking & Embedding (OLE) automation compliant objects. This enables users to define sophisticated processing scripts to send collected information to most Windows software including Word and Excel. Since it is OLE Automation See COM automation.  compliant, users can control and send information to the WEDGEWARE Pro software from within their own programs.

Flexible data acquisition

WEDGEWARE Pro data acquisition and delivery software offers three data acquisition modes:
- Wedge mode - Sends data from data sources to the current application. It also
enables users to insert a prefix or a suffix on data received. For instance,
users can add "ID" or "SSN#" to precede appropriate fields.

- Script mode - Enables users to create scripts using Microsoft Visual Basic
Scripting Edition to specify data acquisition and delivery handling. Any
Microsoft-compliant application that uses ActiveX or OLE objects, including
thousands of applications such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer
relationship management (CRM), office suites, bar code labeling, data
collection and other applications, can easily receive information from
virtually any source.

- Automation mode - Allows users to drive WEDGEWARE Pro data acquisition from
an external application using ActiveX technology. Users retain control over
most data settings and are notified when data is received.

WEDGEWARE Pro software supports data collection on up to eight serial ports and an unlimited number of Ethernet connections. It also enables users to define auto-activation codes which can be used to automatically insert tabs, returns, and other scripts or switches to perform data formatting tasks.

"There is a tremendous amount of information that enters computers from handheld devices, laboratory equipment or over the Internet that has to be adjusted before applications can use it," said Mike Strand, director of business development for data collection at TEKLYNX International. "WEDGEWARE Pro software provides a simple, yet elegant, means of data acquisition. There are thousands, maybe millions, of software programs on the market that can benefit from having real-time data Real-time data denotes information that is delivered immediately after collection. There is no delay in the timeliness of the information provided.

Some uses of this term confuse it with the term dynamic data.

WEDGEWARE Pro data acquisition and delivery software is available through any authorized TEKLYNX channel distributor or reseller. It requires Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 or XP; 2MB available hard disk; serial port and CD-ROM drive A device that holds and reads CD-ROM discs. CD-ROM drives generally also play audio CD discs by sending analog sound to the sound card via a 4-pin cable. For specifications of 10x, 20x, etc. drives, see CD-ROM drives.
