TEI Corporate Tax Department Survey published.

Tax Executives Institute has published a comprehensive survey of corporate tax departments. The Institute's 2004-2005 Corporate Tax Department Survey--a 184-page printed commentary and representative tables, accompanied by a CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.

, noting that 57 percent of the 2,400 companies surveyed responded. "We have sliced and diced the survey questions in many ways," she explained, "to produce data by company size, tax department size and budgets, and industry. The result is an impressive array of benchmarking information that TEI members and others will find invaluable."

The 2004-2005 survey updates and expands upon a survey conducted more than a decade ago, taking special heed of the dramatic changes that have occurred in corporate governance Corporate Governance

The relationship between all the stakeholders in a company. This includes the shareholders, directors, and management of a company, as defined by the corporate charter, bylaws, formal policy, and rule of law.
and the growing need to provide tax directors and other corporate managers with benchmarking information. The results of this effort--which continue TEI's tradition of monitoring the processes and developments in corporate tax departments--are set forth in the volume and are, by any measure, impressive.

A pre-publication summary of results was published in November-December 2004 issue of The Tax Executive. The complete results have been sent to all TEI members who completed the questionnaire. The book and CD-ROM are available for sale to non-participating members (for $125) and others (for $500). Discounts are available for bulk purchases. An order form is available elsewhere in this issue or may be downloaded from TEI's website.

Raymond G. Rossi of Intel Corporation, who served as TEI's 2003-2004 International President, made the development and conduct of the survey one of his goals and helped move the project from concept to reality.

Lynn B. Jordan of Susquehanna Pfaltzgraff Co., who served as chair of TEI's Corporate Tax Management Committee and chair of the Advisory Board, oversaw the project, ensuring that the focus--from beginning to end--would be on the information tax directors need to do their jobs. Lynn, who also serves on TEI's Executive Committee, is the archetypal ar·che·type

Mary L. Fahey, TEI's General Counsel, served as the staff liaison for the project and managed the project, including the Institute's relationship with Schulman, Ronca & Bucuvalas, Inc., the nationally known firm that conducted the survey on TEI's behalf.

Ms. Zelisko reported that TEI owes a debt of gratitude to the following individuals who served on an advisory board who participated in the design and implementation of this survey:
