A second suspect, Robert Utley, 35, of Tehachapi, was arrested without incident about 30 minutes later when deputies stopped a car driving away from a home.

``This was a very active case. We had the shooting and then a pursuit, and a few minutes later another suspect was arrested,'' said Sgt. Chevy Garza of the Kern County Sheriff's Department.

Joshua Olson, 26, of Tehachapi was shot about 7:21 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on Gertrude Avenue.

Olson was flown by helicopter to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield, where he remained in serious condition as of Wednesday. His wounds are not considered to be life threatening, officials said.

Investigators would not elaborate on what might have motivated the shooting, saying disclosure might jeopardize their investigation.

Deputies spoke with several witnesses at the residence who gave them the names of the two men as well as where the men might be found in the Tehachapi area.
