Cleveland College of Art and Design Cleveland College of Art & Design is a further and higher education art and design college, based in the North East of England. The college draws its name from the former non-metropolitan county of Cleveland, operational from 1974 to 1996. out-performed other specialist further education art and design colleges in England according to post-16 performance tables, released earlier this month. The college is one of four further education specialist art and design colleges in England. It is also the second placed college in the country for the progress students make between GCSE GCSE 1. (in Britain) General Certificate of Secondary Education; an examination in specified subjects which replaced the GCE O level and CSE 2. Informal a pass in a GCSE examination Noun 1. and A-level. Principal Martin Raby said: "Our results are excellent and prove not only that we have great students but excellent tutors who get the best out of them. There is a great atmosphere when you walk through the doors and that makes all the difference. "Our students are here because they want to be. They show a great passion for their subjects and enjoy what they do. "We don't only recruit students with high GCSE grades, we want students with a love of art and design, whether that's textiles, graphics, photography or fashion. "Ninety-eight per cent of our students progress to higher education or employment and a lot prefer to continue their studies here because it is a comfortable environment."
