TEEN ANGELS EARN THEIR WINGS BY SERVING COMMUNITY.

Sixteen students from Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth are true angels.

The youngsters belong to Teen Angel, a philanthropic group started last year by sixth-grader Chelsea Norell to reach out to the needy.

The group, made up of sixth- and seventh-grade students, provides an outlet for the youths to sing, dance and act while entertaining young and old at venues including rescue missions, special-education centers and convalescent con·va·les·cent

The group recently spearheaded a schoolwide drive to collect items to make hygiene kits to be distributed to the homeless through the Union Rescue Mission The Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a private, Christian, homeless shelter in downtown Los Angeles's skid row. After performing, the youths spend time interacting with their audience. They often share food they have baked or play games with children who have special needs.

``That's what really sets Teen Angel apart from other student performing groups,'' said Chelsea's mother, Cynthia Cherbak Norell.

On Thursday, Teen Angel entertained students at the Lokrantz Special Education Center in Reseda.

The group's volunteer musical composer, James DiPasquale, is an Emmy-winning composer. Parent volunteers sew sew

Three people from the Valley have been honored for their contributions to disaster and crisis relief.

Rod Stratton of Sylmar, Patricia MacNeil of Topanga and Virginia Rafelson of Canoga Park were honored at the American Red Cross' annual Spotlight Awards for their exemplary service.

Stratton received the Services Spotlight Award for, among many services, his work in disaster response, teaching disaster courses and coordinating drills.

MacNeil received the Good Neighbor Spotlight Award for her work in helping her Topanga Canyon neighbors with disaster preparedness pre·par·ed·ness

Reseda Community Adult School will observe California Adult Education Week, March 16-20, by offering a wide variety of classes to residents of the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley
