TEEN'S PHOTO TAKES PRIZE GRANDPA SCENE WORTH $6,000.

It was a fashion of the 1950s, most notably 1955, popular with young women and teenage girls of the Silent Generation.  took the top two prizes in photography as part of the 2006 Spotlight Awards sponsored by the Music Center.

Adam Torgerson, 17, won first place in photography for a black-and-white photo he took with a digital camera in his own home of his grandfather watching TV. The Agoura Hills High School senior said he was shocked to win the award and called it ``really awesome.''

``Photography is my passion,'' he said. ``I try to photograph things that people might overlook. I try to capture something that people can relate to.''

The second-place award in photography went to Caroline Ratajczak, 17, for a color photo she took with a digital camera of her sister Kasia in a 1950s poodle skirt standing by an old red truck at night in Toluca Lake.

``I'm very excited,'' said Ratajczak, a senior at John Burroughs High School John Burroughs High School is a public high school located in Burbank, California. Emilio Urioste, Jr. is the current principal. The school was built in the 1920's, but wasn't established as a high school until 1948. The school was named after naturalist John Burroughs.  in Burbank. ``... I've never won something so big in my life. Photography started out as something fun to do, and I just started doing it all the time.''

The winners will receive trophies April 29 in ceremonies at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion is one of the halls in the Los Angeles Music Center (which is one of the three largest performing arts centers in the United States). The Music Center's other halls include the Mark Taper Forum, Ahmanson Theatre, and Walt Disney Concert Hall. .
