Summer school classes might seem more laid back but they are no easier to teach, say Las Virgenes Unified School District Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD) is a K-12 school district in north-west Los Angeles County, USA consisting of 14 public schools in the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Westlake Village, and several small portions of the West Hills section of Los Angeles.  educators, who are demanding higher pay for working while the rest of their colleagues are on vacation.

The district has proposed increasing the hourly rate to $34, but rejected the union's proposal to tie that hike to a plan that would gradually raise salaries to regular-year levels.

The school board has refused to comment on the issue because it is in negotiations. Members are scheduled to discuss the issue in closed session during tonight's meeting, which will start at 6 at 4111 N. Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas.

Many teachers who have applied to work this summer have indicated they will not accept the positions if the pay controversy is not resolved fairly, Vick said.

The district has said classes will begin June 15 on schedule, even if it has to hire teachers from outside the district. If that happens, Vick said, ``we think the program's going to suffer.''
