TEACHER WORKSHOP SET FOR PBS SERIES

TEACHER WORKSHOP SET FOR PBS SERIES
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Teachers from throughout the

region are invited to participate in a free, one-day workshop which will prepare them for using a new Public Broadcasting System (PBS) television series as an educational tool.
The workshop will take place on Saturday, Sept. 19, at WHYY-TV.
The workshop, cosponsored by WHYY-TV, McDonald's and the School District of Philadelphia, will give teachers of children ages 8 to 12 a sneak preview of "Behind the Scenes," a series intended to introduce children to the arts in an innovative way. Hosted by magicians-comics Penn and Teller, each of the 10 half-hour episodes will immerse the viewers in a particular aspect of art. Artists to be featured in the series include: painter David Hockney, composer Allen Toussaint, drummer Max Roach, choreographer David Parsons, sculptor Nancy Graves, photographer Carrie Mae Weems, and director/writer/puppeteer Julie Taymor.
Each segment will include cartoons, guest appearances, songs and computer graphics.
The "preview" session for teachers will run from 10 to 11 a.m. at WHYY-TV's studio at 6th and Arch streets in Philadelphia. Free breakfast, a 24-page curriculum guide and the opportunity to win raffle prizes all are part of the day's activities.
For information about registering for the teacher workshop, contact Ami Snyderman at WHYY-TV, 215-790-7800.
