performance. TEAC's DV-516E DVD-ROM drive is the perfect solution for watching movies, listening to music, playing a DVD title, or installing new software. The DV-516E reads most major DVD formats including single and dual layer DVD videos and all standard CD formats.

"The new DV-516E offers one of the fastest DVD-ROM and CD-ROM transfer rates and one of the best digital audio extraction A feature of modern CD-ROM and DVD drives that allows the digital audio data from CDs to be passed to the computer via the drive's IDE or SCSI interface. Before this feature became available, ripping CD tracks required using the analog output of the drive and converting it back to digital  speeds," states Les Luzar, Division Manager, TEAC America's Data Storage Products. "The DV-516E supports an array of formats including: MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. As a DVD-ROM player, the DV-516E supplies an even stream of data thanks to its 21.6MB (16X) per second DVD transfer rate. As a CD-ROM player, it delivers 48X max performance, an 85ms average access time, and a fast 40X Digital Audio Extraction (DAE) speed. The DV-516E supports both standard 12cm and mini 8cm discs and the unit's Constant Angular Velocity (storage) constant angular velocity - (CAV) A disk driving scheme in which the angular velocity of the disk is kept constant. This means that the linear velocity of the disk be larger when the reading or writing the outer tracks.  (CAV) capabilities optimize the drive's throughput and reliability by rotating the disc at a consistent speed. An IDE / ATAPI interface offers easy integration and the unit can be installed either horizontally or vertically. The DV-516E is available in a variety of configurations including a retail kit and the bezel comes in a choice of white or black.
