It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. Booth 3239 LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 2002 Dual Band Radio Product Compatible with IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields. 802.11b and 802.11a Standards TDK TDK Türk Dil Kurumu (Turkish Language Council) TDK The Dark Knights (gaming clan) TDK Tokyo Denkikagaku Kogyo KK (TDK Electronics Co. Ltd. Corporation announced that it will offer a "sneak preview sneak preview n. A single public showing of a movie before its general release. Noun 1. sneak preview - a preview to test audience reactions " of its new Dual Radio Product during the NetWorld + Interop Trade Show in Las Vegas, May 7-9. The new Wireless LAN miniPCI client, developed utilizing Atheros Communications' WLAN See wireless LAN. WLAN - wireless local area network chipset, is compatible with both the IEEE 802.11b and IEEE802.11a standards operating in both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands and will be demonstrated for the first time at TDK's booth (no. 3239) during the three day event. The successful development project is TDK's second generation of 5GHz WLAN products. TDK's dual radio offerings will allow a WLAN user to connect to today's widely deployed 802.11b (Wi-Fi) networks and also connect to the faster 802.11a (Wi-Fi5) wireless LAN networks now being deployed. The new products will be available to market for sampling in July 2002. These next generation products are ideal for integration by Portable PC manufacturers who are increasingly adding 802.11b capability to their offerings. This product allows the PC manufacturer to continue shipping 802.11b product while at the same time increasing the throughput capability with the new 802.11a networks. "For portable PC manufacturers, the emergence of combination 802.11a and 802.11b Mini PCI solutions will greatly simplify the decision on how to integrate wireless LAN connectivity," said Tom Foster, Vice President of Worldwide Sales at Atheros Communications. "We are pleased to be partnering with TDK to bring these next generation, dual-band solutions to market." This ultra-wide bandwidth will help empower next-generation rich media applications, such as wireless video on-demand, video email and simultaneous multi-stream video distribution. TDK's wireless LAN products incorporate the company's high-frequency circuit design technologies, antenna technologies and high-density mounting technologies as well as Atheros Communications' high-speed communications technologies. TDK will market a full line of high-speed wireless LAN solutions including standard form factors such as CardBus and Mini PCI, as well as custom form factors. The Evolution of IEEE 802.11a Network environments utilizing wireless LAN products began coming into widespread use in 2000. Most of these products comply with the IEEE 802.11b standards, which use the 2.4-GHz bandwidth. The 2.4-GHz band, however, is also used by other wireless communications formats, so signal interference is a potential problem. In addition, its maximum transmission speed is limited to 11 Mbps, which is not sufficient for distributing multiple video streams simultaneously. The 802.11a standard eliminates both these issues, offering the potential for interference-free transmission with unprecedented speed.
