or parallel 4 or 8 bit CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes. . Produced in a BiCMOS technology, the device is built for high performance and low power operation. With a 3.3V or 5V power supply and 64-pin TQFP See QFP.  package, the 78P2254 can be easily integrated into new or existing equipment designs.

"The 78P2254 will generate a 311MHz transmit clock to allow the transmit CMI data to be retimed prior to transmission from the line card, for example," said Michelle Ng, broadband product line manager. "The new chip was developed to help our customers improve the robustness of their designs."

The 78P2254 is an ideal choice for 311MHz backplane applications, WAN/ATM transmission, DSLAMs, digital cross-connects, add/drop multiplexers, test equipment, and digital loop carrier In telephone communications, a technology that increases the number of channels in the local loop by converting analog signals to digital and multiplexing them back to the end office.  (DLC (1) (Data Link Control) See data link and OSI.

) equipment where low power consumption, small size, and high performance are required.

The 78P2254 single chip transmitter includes a PLL PLL - phase-locked loop  to multiply the 19.44MHz (SONET) reference clock to the transmission frequency. The receiver provides adaptive equalization for accurate clock and data recovery. Analog and digital loopback modes are also provided to aid system diagnostics. The transmit PLO also generates a 311MHz synchronous differential clock with the same jitter specifications as the transmitter.

Pricing and Availability

The 78P2254 is currently sampling with production quantities available early next quarter. The devices are offered in a 64-pin TFQP version and start at $29.36 in 1K quantities.
