TASTY BAKING BOARD OF DIRECTORS NAMES CARL S. WATTS PRESIDENT AND CEO
 AND APPROVES THE ELECTION OF WATTS AND JOHN M. PETTINE TO BOARD
 PHILADELPHIA, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Tasty Baking Company (AMEX: TBC) board of directors following the regular annual meeting of shareholders today, named Carl S. Watts as president and chief executive officer of Tasty Baking Company with responsibility for all of Tastykake bakery operations, effective May 1.
 Watts, 48, launched his Tastykake career in 1967 as a route salesman. He worked in every facet of sales management, and in 1985 was named vice president of sales and marketing. He was promoted to president of the Tastykake division in 1989, and to president and chief operating officer of Tasty Baking Company in 1991.
 Nelson G. Harris, 65, retires as chairman and chief executive officer, effective May 1, following a 30-year career with Tasty Baking Company. Harris will continue to be active in management and will serve as chairman of the executive committee of the company. The executive committee will have responsibility for strategic planning, corporate policy and financial matters.
 Philip J. Baur Jr. will continue as chairman of the board.
 Continuing in other Tasty Baking Company senior management positions are James F. Mullan, president and chief executive officer of the company's graphic arts subsidiary, Phillips & Jacobs, Inc., and John M. Pettine, vice president and chief financial officer of Tasty Baking Company.
 At the annual meeting of shareholders, held earlier in the day, Watts and Pettine were elected to serve as members of the Tasty Baking Company board of directors.
 Pettine, 49, came to Tasty Baking Company in 1972 as internal audit manager and has been promoted through each level of management in the finance department. Pettine currently serves as vice president and chief financial officer. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Financial Executives Institute. He also serves on the board of directors of the Allegheny West Foundation.
 Watts and Pettine join as members of the Tasty Baking Company board of directors: Baur, chairman of the board; Harris; Fred C. Aldridge Jr.; James L. Everett III; Myron S. Gelbach Jr.; Harold F. Still Jr.; and Judith M. von Seldeneck. W. Thacher Longstreth retired from the board of directors in 1991 and currently serves as director emeritus.
