TARZAN TIDBITS FROM ELMO TO CHEETA.


As of 1998, 20 actors will have assumed the role of Tarzan:

1. Elmo Lincoln starred in the 1918 silent film ``Tarzan of the Apes Noun 1. Tarzan of the Apes - a man raised by apes who was the hero of a series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs

Frank Merrill Frank Dow Merrill (born December 4, 1903 in New Hampshire – died December 11, 1955 in Fernandina Beach, Florida) is best remembered for his command of Merrill's Marauders, officially the 5307th Composite Unit (provisional), in the Burma Campaign of World War II.  played the lead in 1928's ``Tarzan the Mighty.''

6. Johnny Weissmuller Johnny Weissmuller (June 2 1904 – January 20 1984) was an American swimmer and actor who was one of the world's best swimmers in the 1920s, winning five Olympic gold medals and one bronze medal. He won fifty-two US National Championships and set sixty-seven world records. , the most popular Tarzan, starred in 12 films from 1932 to 1948, with his debut in 1932's ``Tarzan, the Ape Man.''

7. Buster Crabbe Buster Crabbe (February 7, 1908 – April 23, 1983) was an American athlete turned actor, who starred in a number of popular serials in the 1930s and 1940s. Birth

 appeared in his only Tarzan film, ``Tarzan the Fearless'' in 1933.

8. Herman Brix (later to become Bruce Bennett) starred in 1935's ``The New Adventures of Tarzan.''

9. Glenn Morris played the lead in 1938's ``Tarzan's Revenge.''

10. Lex Barker starred in four Tarzan films, including his debut in ``Tarzan's Magic Fountain'' in 1949.

11. Gordon Scott starred in five films, including his first, ``Tarzan's Hidden Jungle'' in 1955.

12. Denny Miller has the distinction of starring in the worst Tarzan film ever made - the first remake of ``Tarzan, the Ape Man'' in 1959.

13. Jock Mahoney was the oldest - at age 42 - to play the jungle king in 1960's ``Tarzan the Magnificent For the novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, see .

Casper Van Dien Casper Robert Van Dien, Jr. (born December 18 1968, in or Ridgefield, New Jersey[1]) is an American actor, best known for his role as Johnny Rico in Starship Troopers and most recently as bodyguard Andre in My Network TV's Watch Over Me.  is currently on location filming ``Tarzan & Jane,'' which will premiere later this year.

20. Wesley Snipes Snipes (Diminutive for Snipers) is a text-mode networked computer game that was created in 1983 by SuperSet software. Snipes is officially credited as being the original inspiration for Novell NetWare.  - the first African-American in the role - is set to be the voice of Tarzan in Disney's animated film scheduled to be released in 1998.

Herman Brix, star of ``The New Adventures of Tarzan,'' received $75 a week to travel to the jungles of Guatemala to film this picture. Jiggs the chimp who played Cheeta, received $2,000.

Some of the chimps that played Cheeta:

1. Emma first appeared with Weissmuller in 1932's ``Tarzan, the Ape Man.''

2. Jiggs No. 3 is 65 (in human years) and appeared in several Scott-era films. He likes to oil paint, and enjoys a six-pack of beer and a cigar a day.

3. Zippy starred in ``Tarzan's Hidden Jungle'' in 1955. He formerly appeared on TV's ``Howdy Doody Time.''

4. Dinky was featured in two of Henry's Tarzan films. He bit the star on the cheek, the actor developed monkey fever and went into a coma. It took 18 stitches to close the wound and stopped production for three weeks.
