TARGET SHOPPERS CAN TRY TOYS BEFORE THEY BUY AT NOV. 14 EVENT; TARGET STORES MAKES SHOPPING FOR TOYS EASIER

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Finding the perfect toy for that special child just got "toymendously" easier. Sunday, Nov. 14, Target stores around the country will host Toymendous Funday, a one-day event where shoppers can "test drive" the season's hottest toys before they make their selections. For an event like this, who wouldn't come dashing through the snow.
During regular store hours, toys will be brought off the shelves and into the hands of curious and perhaps perplexed shoppers who are looking for appropriate toys for their children. Twenty of the season's most popular toys will be displayed at information tables by employees who will be able to demonstrate how the toys work.
"Shopping for toys during the holiday season rush can be frustrating and a bit unnerving," said Donna Erickson, nationally syndicated columnist and creative parenting expert. "At Toymendous Funday, anyone shopping for a child can actually try the Nerf Arrow Storm or the Talking Barney to see if they are toys that would be enjoyed. More importantly, it is an opportunity to evaluate these toys and determine which ones are the most appropriate gifts."
In addition to the toy preview, Target will introduce a new signing system in the toy department to help shoppers easily identify toys that are appropriate for their child's age category. Color-coded signing at the end of each toy aisle will list the toys in that aisle by appropriate age group. Red for infant to 12 months, blue for 12 to 24 months, purple for ages 2 to 3, yellow for ages 3 to 5, and green for 5 and older.
"With this signing system in place, shoppers will find they have an easier-to-use toy department, which requires less 'digging through shelves' and offers a quicker view of what is there," said Dave Clark, merchandise manager for Target's toy division. "This should change the whole toy shopping experience at Target."
Target's "Toymendous Times" newspaper will be hot off the presses and available at all stores. Anyone shopping for toys can use this free guide to help them determine which toys are appropriate for the youngster on their list. It will also include photos and explanations of the season's top 10 toys. The first issue of "Toymendous Times" will be available at the Nov. 14 event and the second issue will be in stores Dec. 1.
Actress Teri Garr is the celebrity spokesperson for Toymendous Funday. She will be featured in Target's television advertising campaign that runs from Nov. 7 through Dec. 11.
Target and the Discover Card have teamed up to offer shoppers an additional bonus on Toymendous Funday. Anyone charging $50 worth of merchandise on their Discover Card will get a $5 coupon good on any future purchase at Target.
