TAPPI Pulp Manufacture Division Leadership and Service Award and Joseph K. Perkins Prize.

Gene R. Canavan has been selected to receive the TAPPI Pulp Manufacture Division Leadership and Service Award and Joseph K. Perkins Prize. This award was presented at the 2004 TAPPI Fall Technical Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

A TAPPI member since 1986, Canavan has been active in the Alkaline Pulping Committee and the Pulp Manufacture Division. In 1998 Canavan was named secretary of the Pulp Manufacture Division. He then served as vice chairman of the division and completed his term as division chairman in 2003. In addition, Canavan has served on the Operating Committee of the Board of Directors and on the planning team for the Volunteer Leaders' Forum. Canavan was elected to the TAPPI Board of Directors in 2004.

The TAPPI Pulp Manufacture Division Leadership and Service Award and Joseph K. Perkins Prize, the division's highest Leadership and Service award, recognizes individuals who have a proven history of diligent work for TAPPI and the Pulp Manufacture Division. The Joseph K. Perkins Prize was established by the IMPCO Division, now Beloit Pulping, in recognition of the exemplary leadership and service performed by TAPPI Fellow Joseph K. Perkins for the TAPPI Pulp Manufacture Division. The Joseph K. Perkins Prize, in the amount of $1000, is given to a university chosen by the Pulp Manufacture Division Leadership and Service Award recipient.
