TAP AWARDS TO EASE TRANSITION.

VALENCIA -- Five College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  students bound for the University of California, Los Angeles UCLA comprises the College of Letters and Science (the primary undergraduate college), seven professional schools, and five professional Health Science schools. Since 2001, UCLA has enrolled over 33,000 total students, and that number is steadily rising. , were among the 65 awarded a Transfer Alliance Program scholarship for the 2006-07 school year.

 to an academic scholarship of at least $5,000 per year. Scholarships can also be renewed a second year if a student achieves a grade-point average of 3.0, complete 45 units and participate in undergraduate research while at UCLA.

``We want to ensure that students have a successful and smooth transition to four-year universities and are just as capable as their fellow peers,'' said Sue Bozman, Canyons' dean of district communication, marketing and external relations.

Since 1985, College of the Canyons has been developing special transfer alliance agreements with the colleges and universities to which most of its students transfer. Canyons has special transfer alliances with several four-year institutions, such as UCLA.

Students who join one of these transfer alliances can benefit from receiving special priority consideration for admission, and possible special consideration for scholarships and housing.
