TALKS CONTINUE BETWEEN GENEVA STEEL AND THE UNITED STEELWORKERS OF AMERICA

 VINEYARD, Utah, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Geneva Steel (NYSE & PSE: GNV) announced today that negotiations between the company and the United Steelworkers of America continued throughout the past weekend.
 "Significant progress was made toward resolving health care issues," said Joseph A. Cannon, chairman and chief executive officer. "We also spent considerable time on other economic issues, and will continue those discussions today."
 Talks between the company and the union had broken off on Wednesday of last week. The current contract expires on Tuesday, Aug. 31, at midnight.
 Geneva Steel is the only integrated steel mill operating west of the Mississippi River. The company manufactures hot-rolled steel sheet, plate and pipe for sale primarily in the western and central United States.
