KRLA, which once took part in bringing the Beatles to the Hollywood Bowl in the early '60s, will lead off each day with syndicated host Don Imus, who exits adult standards KLAC-AM (570).

Although the new format debuts at the end of the month, midday host Jackson won't start until the new year.

Once the lineup falls into place, Dr. Toni Grant will follow Jackson at noon, with G. The new all-talk station will target a more traditional 35-to-64 age group in contrast to the much younger audience sought by KLSX, KRLA/KLSX general manager Bob Moore said.

``For 18 months, we did 250 calls a week to English-speaking adults, 25 to 64, and asked them what they felt was missing in terms of music on the AM dial and they answered, `Nothing,' '' Moore explained. ``Because the truth is, once you take away KRLA and KLAC, you have no more music on AM.

``We also asked what people felt was missing in terms of talk on AM and their overwhelming response was, `Michael Jackson, Monday through Friday.' ''
