TALENT, DEPTH MAKE HOOVER THREAT TO STRETCH TITLE STREAK; TORNADOES RETURN TWO STATE RUNNERS.

Byline: Kirby Lee Special to the Daily News

Former Hoover High cross country standouts Margarito Casillas and David Lopez have joined forces at the University of Arizona (body, education) University of Arizona - The University was founded in 1885 as a Land Grant institution with a three-fold mission of teaching, research and public service.  this fall.

The legacy of Casillas, a redshirt senior for the Wildcats who was fifth in the 1991 national high school championship, and Lopez, a freshman who finished 13th in last year's national meet, remains strong at Hoover.

Their younger brothers Wiki is aware of the following uses of "'Younger Brother":
  • Younger Brother (music group)
  • Younger Brother (Trinity House) - a title within the British organisation, Trinity House
, Isabel Casillas and Joe Lopez, are members of this year's Hoover squad that is the seeking its fourth consecutive Pacific League title.

Isabel Casillas, a senior, is the top returner for Hoover, which finished seventh in the state Division I championship race. He placed 22nd in 16 minutes, 10 seconds over the 5,000-meter course at Woodward Park Woodward Park (34 acres) is a public park, botanical garden, and arboretum located between 21st Street and 24th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA. It is open to the public daily.  in Fresno.

``There is pressure to do the same thing as my brother,'' Casillas said. ``He's motivated me to train hard and accomplish something.''

Casillas is complemented by senior Jamal Balouch, 37th in the state meet. This summer, Balouch, who clocked 4:26.8 for 1,600 meters in track, and Casillas logged 100 miles during Hoover's week-long running camp in the mile-high altitude of Mammoth in August.

``Just that has given us a lot of confidence, we're going to step up to another level,'' Balouch said. ``This is the hardest-working group. Potential-wise, it looks pretty good.''

With Eliazar Herrera, who finished 11th in the 1989 national meet, Hoover has produced three national championship qualifers in the last eight years under 12th year coach Greg Switzer.

The Tornadoes might lack that dominant front-runner as in previous years but the 1997 team might be Switzer's deepest squad at Hoover.

``We probably had pretty close to the top 1-2-3 punch in the state last year,'' Switzer said. ``Our first three would score next to nothing but the total of our fourth and fifth runners fell off the planet. I think we have the potential to be much more solid and stronger in the fifth position.''

Senior Jorge Mesa (73rd) also has state-meet experience for Hoover. Sophomores Ivan Alvarado and Joe Lopez round out the top five. Junior Oshian Ghookassian and sophomores Hovik Chimayan and Bengson Campos Campos (käm`ps), city (1996 pop. 391,299), Rio de Janeiro state, SE Brazil, on the Paraíba River near its mouth.  are battling for the sixth and seventh positions.
