TAKING TO THE SKIES AIR SHOW BACK AT EDWARDS AFB.

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE Edwards Air Force Base, U.S. military installation, 301,000 acres (121,805 hectares), S Calif., NE of Lancaster; est. 1933. It is one of the largest air force bases in the United States and has the world's longest runway.  - Edwards Air Force Base will open its gates to the public in October for a two-day open house and air show, the first in two years.

The one-day air show planned for October 2004 was canceled because of tight budgets and the extra work it would put on base personnel already preparing for a major inspection and a change in commanders.

 parachute team has been signed up to perform, officials said. Civilian aerobatic performers are also being considered.

The Air Force's Thunderbirds flying team won't be present, as it has already been booked elsewhere.

Also expected to be flying and on display are military aircraft from World War II. Visitors will be allowed to bring baby strollers, lawn chairs, plastic water bottles, diaper bags and small coolers for baby food or medication.
