 TACO BELL LAUNCHES IMMEDIATE AND LONG-TERM RELIEF EFFORTS
 FOR HURRICANE ANDREW VICTIMS 'Taco Bell Foundation -- Hurricane Andrew Relief Effort' Announced
 MIAMI, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Taco Bell announced today immediate plans to assist employees and communities hardest hit by Hurricane Andrew. Plans feature extensive local and national efforts including a 30-day, in-store fundraising campaign that will raise money through canisters placed in Taco Bells nationwide.
 The funds raised through the canister campaign will be earmarked specifically for hurricane relief efforts designed to support local residents and their businesses in south Florida and Louisiana. Taco Bell's canister program, called the "Taco Bell Foundation -- Hurricane Andrew Relief Effort," will solicit donations from the more than 30 million customers who visit the company's restaurants each week.
 Taco Bell also announced:
 -- It will start serving lunch at key Red Cross shelters in the impacted areas of southern Florida. This program will utilize a self-contained mobile coach that has been converted into a traveling Taco Bell, as well as portable "new concept" carts that were shipped by train from Denver over the weekend. These new concept carts are experimental and are currently being tested in select locations in the United States. The carts will be rolled out to various shelters. They will serve bean burritos and beef burritos as well as canned Pepsi products.
 -- It will provide the Salvation Army with shipments of paper goods -- paper plates, napkins, cups etc. -- which are needed because of lack of water for washing.
 -- The opening of an employee relief center to assist more than 200 displaced Taco Bell employees. Employees will receive food, medical attention, money, free telephone service and other assistance. All affected employees will remain on the payroll.
 More than 20 Taco Bell locations were impacted by Hurricane Andrew, with five almost totally destroyed.
 Irvine, Calif.-based Taco Bell, a subsidiary of PepsiCo Inc. (NYSE: PEP), is the nation's leading Mexican-style quick-service restaurant chain with more than 3,700 restaurants in 49 states and 70,000 employees.
 Taco Bell Facts At A Glance
 The company will donate:
 -- 200,000 cups;
 -- 175,000 napkins;
 -- 2,250 rolls of toilet paper;
 -- 100,000 paper plates; and
 -- 17,000 trash liners;
 -- In total the company will donate 655,970 items.
 The company:
 -- Will use three methods of serving hot food -- mobile carts, a
 mobile coach and portable warming pouches;
 -- Has more than 200 employees affected;
 -- Has five restaurants severely damaged; and
 -- Is keeping all impacted employees on the payroll.
