Full-featured systems from eMachines span a variety of education needs, from everyday computing to high-performance multimedia. The latest models include BigFix software, providing schools with a proactive technical support system to help ensure continuing maintenance and performance of the system.

The economy T1220, at $399, has an Intel Celeron 1.20 GHz processor, 128 MB SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) A type of dynamic RAM (DRAM) memory chip that has been widely used since the late 1990s. SDRAM chips eliminated wait states by dividing the chip into two cell blocks and interleaving data between them. , 20-GB hard drive, 56K V. 92 ready fax/modem, a 48x CD-ROM drive, keyboard, mouse and speakers.

The T2080, at $749, comes with an AMD (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA, www.amd.com) A major manufacturer of semiconductor devices including x86-compatible CPUs, embedded processors, flash memories, programmable logic devices and networking chips.  Athlon XP 2000+ processor, 512 MB DDR, 80 GB hard drive, same modem, 32x CD-RW (CD-ReWritable) The only rewritable CD technology. CD-RW disks look like other CD media, but with close inspection, they have a more polished surface with a very dark blue-gray cast.  and a 16x DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.
