T.O. CIVIC ARTS PLAZA OFFERS VARIETY OF ADVENTURES FOR CHILDREN, FAMILIES : COMING PERFORMANCES AT THE CIVIC ARTS PLAZA.

Byline: Patricia Hesselbach Special to the Daily News

Family theater is a popular ticket in Ventura County. Emphasizing entertainment and education for children, several performing arts presenting organizations offer young people and their parents a chance to view exceptional theater. One group even offers workshops and an opportunity for young people to participate actively in full-scale theatrical adventures.

``We all take a different aspect of programming and reach different children,'' said Ramona Brandes, coordinator of the Community Entertainment series which brings Broadway to busloads of youngsters. She feels that all of the presenting organizations combined provide an invaluable educational experience. The mother of young children, Brandes is aware of the impact a stage performance can make on a child.

``I love meeting all of the teachers and the kids,'' Brandes said. ``They all go back to school and color what they saw, and write down their favorite parts of the show and send their drawings to me.''

Next week, Community Entertainment presents a musical adaptation of ``Wind in the Willows,'' performed by recipients of the Freedom Foundation's Medal of Honor Medal of Honor

If the daytime field trips serve to spark a burning theatrical desire in the young and young at heart, the evening and weekend offerings of the Ventura County Children's Festival will surely feed the fire.

``Our emphasis is on family performances as opposed to children's performances,'' said the coordinator of the Ventura County Children's Festival, Brian Bemel. The festival has presented family entertainment in the country for 12 years. ``At first, our shows were geared for children, and parents came along. However, some of the entertainment is truly ageless.''
