T.O. BANK ROBBED; FBI SAYS CRIME TIED TO 20 OTHERS.

California Federal Bank California Federal Bank, often abbreviated to "Cal Fed", was a savings and loan bank in California. It existed from 1926 until 2002, when its parent company Golden State Bancorp was acquired by Citigroup, resulting in the bank being merged into Citibank.  on Moorpark Road was robbed Tuesday morning by a man who FBI agents suspect has robbed more than 20 banks in the region over the past three years.

``We think this is the guy. He's a serial robber,'' said Special Agent Larry Dick. ``It could be the same guy who's been extremely active in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  since 1993.''

Dick said the man is suspected in a string of robberies reported from Woodland Hills east to Glendora dating to 1993.

``The clothing changes. The style of the robbery is the key,'' Dick explained. ``It's the way the note is done and things like that that make this guy unique.''

Cindy Meyer, manager at the California Federal Bank branch on Moorpark Road, said the man did not display a weapon and there were no injuries during Tuesday's robbery.

``It was quick and dirty,'' Meyer said. ``They don't occur too often thankfully.''

Meyer said the bank branch did not reopen Tuesday.

Sheriff's patrols joined by FBI agents searched the area in central Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  with assistance from a sheriff's helicopter.

Witnesses told investigators a man matching the robber's physical description was seen driving from the area in a charcoal-gray sedan Sedan (sədäN`), town (1990 pop. 22,407), Ardennes dept., NE France, on the Meuse River. A noted textile center since the 16th cent., Sedan also has metal and brewing industries. The town became part of French crown lands in 1642. . The vehicle had not been found and no arrests had been made by late Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

On Saturday, a white male wearing a white T-shirt, jeans and a red baseball cap robbed the Wells Fargo Bank on Townsgate Road about 11:38 a.m. Sheriff's officials said the robber also handed a note to a teller and ran from the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.
