T&G And GMB Confirm 'Bonus' Strike Days At Heathrow Terminal 5.

 at Heathrow Terminal 5, will halt the week before Christmas as the Transport and General Workers Union and GMB GMB (in Britain) General, Municipal and Boilermakers (Trade Union)  today announced their members will strike in a dispute over bonus pay. The unions said the dispute was with the contractors Laing O'Rourke Laing O’Rourke plc is the largest privately owned construction firm in the UK. It has offices in the UK, Germany, India, Australia and United Arab Emirates, with over 23,000 employees worldwide.  who have so far failed to match the [pounds sterling]1 an hour claim for the construction workers. The bonus pay rates have not been reviewed for three years and the joint unions drew comparisons with other contractors on site who have agreed to the claim which amounts to under [pounds sterling]50 a week. "Our members have voted to strike, more people on site are joining the T&G by the day as they see us fighting back for them and the onus now is on Laing O'Rourke to respond positively to our claim," said Alan Brkljac, T&G regional industrial organiser. Any disruption to the construction of Heathrow's Terminal 5 will be placed directly at the door of the employer for their behaviour over the conduct of this official strike action." The first strike days have been confirmed as starting at 6.45am on Friday 16th and ending 6.45am on Tuesday 20th December. The T&G and GMB represent a range of workers across the site including scaffolders, plant operatives, chargehands, concrete finishers plus other craft workers as well as general labourers. Laing O'Rourke employ 850 of the 1,500 civil engineering workers on the site. Amec and Balfour Beatty Balfour Beatty plc (LSE: BBY) is a British based construction and civil engineering company based in central London. It is the largest construction company in the UK, and the 15th largest in the world.[3] It is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.  employ the remainder who have also made this claim. Discussions are still underway on this claim with these two employers. The mechanical engineering workers on the site have already been awarded this [pounds sterling]1 per hour from June.
