The CPD was introduced by the European Union European Union (EU), name given since the ratification (Nov., 1993) of the Treaty of European Union, or Maastricht Treaty, to the

European Community
 to ensure products are compliant with European health, safety and environmental protection laws. Any product that meets the mandated requirements is indicated with a CE marking and is permitted to be sold within the member states.

Currently, System Sensor is the only manufacturer whose waterflow switches are compliant with CPD, EN 12259-5.
