Syscan Introduces the World's Ultra-Compact Mobile Scanner for the Notebook PC Market.

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 1, 1999--

TravelScan Paves the Way in Revolutionizing Powerful, Portable,

Ultra-Low Power Digital Scanning for the Notebook PC

Syscan, Inc. (formerly ScanVision, Inc.), a technology leader in the digital imaging market, today announced TravelScan, the first member of their mobile scanner product family.

TravelScan is Syscan's first super compact, 300x600 optical dpi, 24-bit color sheet-fed scanner with simple standard notebook PC PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association, San Jose, CA, www.pcmcia.org) An international standards body and trade association that was founded in 1989 to establish a standard for connecting peripherals to portable computers. PCMCIA created the PC Card. See PC Card.  port connectivity. TravelScan's unique combination of high-speed, superior quality scanning with low power consumption gives users a custom tailored solution for meeting all their mobile image capture needs.

"By integrating the most advanced power management and CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes.  imaging technologies, TravelScan is completely redefining the portable color sheet-fed market by providing all the features and capabilities you would expect in a desktop scanner, but in a sleek and lightweight foot-print design making portability simple," said Darwin Hu, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  and president of Syscan, Inc. "Unlike its competitors, TravelScan is the most portable scanning product available. It weighs only 10 ounces at 1 1/4" high by 1 3/4" wide, fits comfortably in a notebook bag and can be easily transported without the accompaniment of power adapters and heavy parallel-port connectors or other external attachments. TravelScan is perfect for the mobile user who needs to scan documents or color photos, fax, email, store and organize paperwork on their notebook while consuming minimal computer electrical power."

TravelScan draws its power through its PC-Card interface from a portable computer. The power requirements are so slight that even while scanning, TravelScan uses one sixth-hundredth of a computer's electrical power. In perspective, the same amount of battery power used to open, edit, and save a typical Microsoft Word file could be used to scan over 40 pages of text using the TravelScan, making it virtually power free.

The TravelScan Hardware and Software Technology Package

TravelScan is made with a super-strong housing, a special double-shell design, and integrates TrueFeed(TM), a feeder design with only three moving parts inside which makes the scanner extremely durable.

The TravelScan Package includes the scanner, a PCMCIA card interface, a tote-bag, and application software on CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.
