Sypris Data Systems and Sypris Electronics Announce Joint Aerospace and Defense Board of Advisors.

SAN DIMAS, Calif. -- Sypris Data Systems, Inc. and Sypris Electronics, LLC, the aerospace and defense electronics segment of parent company Sypris Solutions, Inc., today announced the formation of a joint board of advisors.

The board of advisors is tasked with providing strategic and technical guidance to the Sypris companies both in development of products and market segment focus. The board is comprised of a team of experts including leadership from Sypris Data Systems and Sypris Electronics in addition to the following accomplished aerospace and defense authorities:

Chuck Thomas is a retired Army major general and vice president with BAE Systems, Analytical Solutions. Thomas' thirty-two years on active duty were primarily in military intelligence command and staff positions, retiring as chief of staff, U.S. Army Training & Doctrine Command in 2000. Since joining BAE Systems, his primary responsibilities focused on business and marketing opportunities in systems engineering and intelligence related activities.

Tom Newberry is a retired Army colonel and chief operating officer for 3D Research Corporation. He was commissioned in the Army in 1977. Newberry has served as the project manager for Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Systems which included PATRIOT, the PATRIOT Advanced Capability 3 (PAC-3) missile program, and the tri-national Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS) program. Additionally, he briefly served as the project manager for Kinetic Energy Missiles with the PEO for Tactical Missiles. He was also the project manager for Short Range Air Defense (Acting) and Product Manager for the STINGER Air Defense Missile System.

Rasler Smith, PhD, is a retired Marine captain and a senior scientist for the New Mexico State University Physical Science Laboratory in the Information Operations Laboratory. Dr. Smith is the director of intelligence and acts as the deputy director for the IO laboratory. Dr. Smith has 20 years of electronic warfare (EW) experience, including theoretical aspects, modeling and simulation, and direct application in combat environments. His expertise spans all EW components including in-depth knowledge of Electronic Protect, Electronic Support, and Electronic Attack as they pertain to both radars and to communications systems (i.e., technical ELINT and COMMINT). He has vast experience with radar, having been involved with operation, theory, repair, and interpretation for more than 30 years. In addition to his EW expertise, Dr. Smith is proficient in both digital and analog radio modulations, with extensive knowledge of simulations and signal processing of these systems.

As part of the board of advisors, Thomas, Newberry and Smith will guide Sypris Data Systems and Sypris Electronics senior management and engineering staff with regard to identifying current and future customer needs as well as setting the course for product development. Furthermore, the board will aid in market penetration through networking and introductions at government agencies and major primes.
