Synplicity's Synplify Pro Software Enables Outstanding Performance

for Actel's Devices Targeting Communications

Applications

Synplicity, Inc. (Nasdaq: SYNP SYNP Synchronization Profile ), a leading supplier of software for the design and verification of semiconductors, today announced its market-share leading FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market.  synthesis software, Synplify Pro(R), now offers optimized support for the new Actel Axcelerator FPGA device family, introduced today. With Axcelerator device support and integration with Actel's Libero Libero can refer to:
  • Libero (soccer), a more versatile type of centre back in soccer
  • Libero (volleyball), a player specialized in defensive skills in volleyball
  • Mitsubishi Libero, the Japanese market name of the Mitsubishi Lancer wagon
design environment, the Synplify Pro software provides customers with a fast, easy-to-use solution for quickly reaching timing goals for Actel's high-performance devices. The Axcelerator devices deliver over 500 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  core operation and up to 100 percent resource utilization, making them appropriate for high-speed communications applications.

"We developed our Axcelerator device family to deliver the high speeds required by today's communications and bridging systems," said Bryon Moyer, senior director of tools and technical marketing at Actel. "Synplicity's synthesis products offer tremendous quality of results, runtime and productivity advantages. We believe customers using Synplicity's Synplify(R) products in combination with Actel's Libero integrated design The introduction to this article provides insufficient context for those unfamiliar with the subject matter.

environment or Designer tool suite will be able to meet aggressive performance and time-to-market goals for our new Axcelerator devices -- the industry's fastest FPGAs."

Synplicity's Synplify Pro software performs technology mapping of HDL-based designs directly into Actel's Axcelerator architecture. The software produces an Axcelerator-optimized netlist and maps it directly into the Actel Libero integrated design environment, taking advantage of the unique device architecture and yielding high-performing designs.

"The high-speed internal core architecture in Actel's Axcelerator devices takes direct aim at eliminating performance bottlenecks in communications and networking applications," said Jeff Garrison, director of marketing for FPGA products at Synplicity. "We worked closely with Actel to create an optimized synthesis flow for the rapid design and development of these devices. The Synplify Pro software offers fast runtimes and device-specific mapping technology and we believe customers using our FPGA synthesis solution with the Actel Axcelerator family will be able to quickly achieve their performance targets."

With today's announcement, Synplicity continues to provide support for Actel's programmable logic See PLD.  families. In addition to the new Axcelerator devices, other families supported by the Synplify software include: ProASIC Plus, ProASIC, 54SXS SXS Step-by-Step Switch (telecommunications) , eX, 54SXA SXA Single Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (bone density measure of wrist or heel) , 54SX, 42MX, 40MX, 3200DX, ACT3, ACT2 and ACT1.

About Actel's Axcelerator Device Family

Based on a 0.15-micron, seven-layer metal antifuse process, the Axcelerator family, with five devices ranging in density from 125,000 to 2-million system gates, can achieve the highest internal performance in the industry, delivering over 500 MHz operation and up to 100 percent resource utilization. Built upon the company's new AX architecture, the Axcelerator family features several key architectural advancements, including an embedded FIFO (First In First Out) A storage method that retrieves the item stored for the longest time. Contrast with LIFO. See traffic engineering methods.

About the Synplify Pro Software

Driven by the proprietary Behavior Extracting Synthesis Technology(R) (B.E.S.T.(TM)) algorithms, Synplicity's synthesis solutions can deliver optimal circuit performance with the most efficient area utilization, helping programmable logic designers rapidly achieve aggressive performance objectives. The Synplify Pro software takes designs written in VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) A hardware description language (HDL) used to design electronic systems at the component, board and system level. VHDL allows models to be developed at a very high level of abstraction.  or Verilog as input, extracts designer intent by inferring complex memories, finite state machines (FSMs) and advanced mathematical functions In mathematics, several functions or groups of functions are important enough to deserve their own names.
