The Semiconductor Industry News established the LSI of the Year awards in 1994 to promote market development and technology in the semiconductor industry. The award acknowledges the most remarkable LSI products and technology in two categories -- the Device category, and the Design Environment/Development Tool category. Nearly 250 products were nominated for the 2006 award with the Synplicity Premier software receiving first-place recognition by receiving the Grand Prix Award.

"We are extremely honored to receive the prestigious LSI of the Year Award for our Synplify Premier product," said Gary Meyers, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Synplicity, Inc. "The Synplify Premier software represents a breakthrough achievement and this award demonstrates our continuing leadership position in the FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) A type of gate array that is programmed in the field rather than in a semiconductor fab. Containing up to hundreds of thousands of gates, there are a variety of FPGA architectures on the market.  synthesis market. We remain committed to offering innovative software solutions that enable the rapid and effective design of complex, high-performance semiconductors."

"Synplicity holds a dominant share of the FPGA logic synthesis market," said Dr. Eng. Hiroto Yasuura, professor of Kyushu University, Chairman of the review committee. "Synplicity's unique FPGA physical synthesis technology ensures fast timing closure and improves operation speed. The Synplify Premier software is highly evaluated as an essential method for 90nm FPGA designs."

This award marks the fourth time Synplicity's tools have won an LSI of the Year award. Previous products from Synplicity that won the prestigious award include: the Amplify(R) Family of Structured/Platform ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  synthesis tools (2005 Semi-Grand Prix award winner); Identify(R) RTL (Register Transfer Level) A high-level hardware description language (HDL) for defining digital circuits. The circuits are described as a collection of registers, Boolean equations, control logic such as "if-then-else" statements as well as complex event sequences;  Debugger software (2004 third place LSI of the Year award winner); Amplify(R) FPGA Physical Synthesis software with TOPS(TM) (Total Optimization Physical Synthesis Technology) (2002 Jury's Special award winner).

About Synplify Premier

The Synplify Premier software builds upon Synplicity's industry leading synthesis technology and adds new graph-based physical synthesis and real-time simulator-like visibility into operating FPGA devices. Graph-based physical synthesis technology improves timing closure by means of a single-pass physical synthesis flow for 90nm FPGAs. The technology merges optimization, placement and routing to generate a fully placed and physically optimized netlist, providing rapid timing closure and a 5% to 20% timing improvement. In addition, Synplify Premier offers the most efficient method of in-system verification of FPGAs. The Synplify Premier software dramatically accelerates the debug To correct a problem in hardware or software. Debugging software means locating the errors in the source code (the program logic). Debugging hardware means finding errors in the circuit design (logical circuits) or in the physical interconnections of the circuits.  process and provides a rapid and incremental method for finding elusive design problems. With the addition of graph-based physical synthesis and source-level, in-circuit debugging to the world's best FPGA synthesis technology, the Synplify Premier tool is the industry's most comprehensive and productive FPGA design solution.
