SEOUL, Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 2002

Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS SNPS Space Nuclear Power System ), the technology leader for complex integrated circuit integrated circuit (IC), electronic circuit built on a semiconductor substrate, usually one of single-crystal silicon. The circuit, often called a chip, is packaged in a hermetically sealed case or a nonhermetic plastic capsule, with leads extending from it for  (IC) design, and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology This article reads like a news release, or is otherwise written in an overly promotional tone.

(KAIST KAIST Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology ) today announced the signing of a licensing agreement for the seventh year under the Synopsys University Program. This agreement allows KAIST to distribute Synopsys licensed products to a widespread network of 56 participating universities. To date, thousands of graduates have benefited from the Synopsys University Program in Korea, achieving the technical skill needed to leverage EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board.  tools to produce the next generation of complex integrated circuits Integrated circuits

Under the terms of the Synopsys University Program, professors and students have licensed access to Synopsys' electronic design automation (EDA) technology for education in silicon design and test techniques. Technology provided as part of the program includes Design Compiler(TM) synthesis, VCS (1) (Verilog Computer Simulator) See Verilog.

This year, SystemC-based system-level design and verification tools are included for the first time, featuring SystemC simulation and synthesis (CoCentric(R) System Studio and CoCentric SystemC Compiler).

"Synopsys' University Program not only enables Korean engineering students to use and learn Synopsys technology, it also equips them to solve the toughest design problems using state-of-the-art design tools when they enter the work force," said Professor Chong-Min Kyung, professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Science and head of the Integrated Circuit Design Education Center at KAIST. "Aided by our positive relationship with Synopsys and the company's generous support, students at the universities have successfully designed and implemented thousands of ICs and SoCs for educational purposes, in the form of multi-project wafers."

Korean universities make up more than 50 of the more than 450 universities participating in the worldwide Synopsys University Program. Under this program, Synopsys provides a complete suite of EDA software for only a minimal administrative fee. The current commercial value of Synopsys-licensed software at Korean universities is greater than USD USD
