Synopsys Wins OCP-IP Outstanding Contributor of the Year Award.

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Open Core Protocol International Partnership (OCP-IP) today announced that Synopsys, Inc. is the winner of the Outstanding Contributor of the Year Award for 2006. The OCP-IP Governing Steering Committee steerĀ·ing committee

Synopsys was acknowledged for its leadership and contributions in OCP-IP's Functional Verification Functional verification, in electronic design automation, is the task of verifying that the logic design conforms to specification. In everyday terms, functional verification attempts to answer the question "Does this proposed design do what is intended?" This is a complex task,  Working Group (FVWG). Synopsys played a key role in the development of Functional Coverage guidelines that were released earlier in 2006.

Functional Coverage is a technique to measure the quality of the stimuli generated by a verification test suite. It provides an objective view of the verification space and is used to measure the completeness of the verification of an OCP IP block. The guidelines eliminate the need for "best guess" verification by engineers making certain an OCP interface complies with the current OCP specification, while assuring verification quality and IP block compatibility at the system level. Synopsys has also integrated the functional coverage groups into its DesignWare[R] OCP Verification IP.

In addition, Synopsys, along with other members of the FVWG, assisted with the addition of a section in the recently released OCP 2.2 specification, which is dedicated to verification and provides compliance, configuration and functional coverage checks for the OCP interface. This helps designers and verification engineers create checking and verification solutions in the language and tools of their choice.

"We appreciate OCP-IP's acknowledgement of our contributions to the industry. Our collaboration enables engineers to more easily verify complex OCP-based SoC designs and bring them to market quickly and efficiently," said Ed Bard, senior director of Marketing, Digital IP at Synopsys "Synopsys looks forward to working with our customers and further collaborating with standards bodies such as OCP-IP to deliver consistent, high-quality verification IP, including support for SystemVerilog and the leading-edge VMM (1) (Virtual Machine Monitor) The layer of software that virtualizes a computer into multiple virtual machine environments. Also called a "hypervisor." See virtual machine.  verification methodology."

"OCP has a robust, thriving infrastructure of leading-edge products and services, now supplemented with the Functional Coverage Guidelines as defined and developed by many of the independent member companies," said Ian Mackintosh, president of OCP-IP. "We are grateful for the tremendous leadership and contributions provided by Synopsys and thank them for their efforts. We are pleased to present them with the Outstanding Contributor Award and look forward to continued partnership in the future."
