Syngenta Biotechnology Inc., Research Triangle Park, N.C., and Egea Biosciences Inc., San Diego, are collaborating to design and engineer plants that will resist pests through the incorporation of genes for naturally occurring molecules.


Syngenta Syngenta AG is a large global agribusiness which markets seeds and crop protection products (pesticides). Syngenta is involved in biotechnology and genomic research. The company is a leader in crop protection, and ranks third in total sales in the commercial agricultural seeds  Biotechnology Inc., Research Triangle Park Research Triangle Park, research, business, medical, and educational complex situated in central North Carolina. It has an area of 6,900 acres (2,795 hectares) and is 8 × 2 mi (13 × 3 km) in size. Named for the triangle formed by Duke Univ. , N.C., and Egea Biosciences Inc., San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay. , are collaborating to design and engineer plants that will resist pests through the incorporation of genes for naturally occurring molecules. When inserted into a plant, the genes will work in concert to produce the chemical within the cells of the plant that will take the place of the chemicals sprayed on the fields by farmers.
