Symphonix partners with Siemens.


Symphonix Devices, Inc., has signed a worldwide, multiyear supply agreement with Siemens Audiologische Technik GmbH, a world leader in hearing instruments. Under the terms of the agreement, Siemens will provide signal-processing technology and components for integration into Symphonix's family of Vibrant(R) soundbridges. This will include Siemens' latest advances in digital signal processing See DSP.

Digital Signal Processing - (DSP) Computer manipulation of analog signals (commonly sound or image) which have been converted to digital form (sampled).
 (DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive ) technology and will provide a common technology platform across all Symphonix products, as well as for future DSP upgrades.

Additionally, programming parameters for the Vibrant soundbridge will be incorporated into Siemens's standard programming software, and Siemens will license its [CONNEXX.sup.TM] fitting software to Symphonix for use by audiologists when fitting the Vibrant soundbridge for patients. Symphonix's Vibrant soundbridge is a surgical implant implant /im·plant/ (im-plant´) to insert or to graft (tissue, or inert or radioactive material) into intact tissues or a body cavity.  designed to work with the natural structures of the middle ear, to enhance hearing and communication ability for people with hearing impairment hearing impairment
