Next Step in Reducing Post-Acquisition Operating Costs Combines

Operations of Irvine, California and Beverly, Massachusetts Sites

Symmetricom, Inc. (Nasdaq:SYMM), the world's leading supplier of network synchronization and timing solutions, announced today that it will consolidate its manufacturing facility in Irvine, Calif., with its facility in Beverly, Mass. The move, which is part of the company's post-acquisition plan to capture additional synergies and future reduce operational costs, is expected to be completed by the end of calendar 2003.

The Irvine operations were acquired as part of Symmetricom's purchase of Datum, Inc. in October, 2002. With approximately 150 employees in 46,000 square feet, the facility houses a portion of the company's Technology Realization Center, which is responsible for the design and manufacture of Symmetricom's core atomic clock technologies. Rubidium products built in Irvine will now be transferred to and combined with former Datum operations in Beverly, where the company currently builds cesium oscillators and performs specialty engineering for Space, Defense and Avionics markets. Unifying operations is expected to result in a significant reduction in overhead and concentrates technology and talent in one location. Certain Irvine-based employees are being offered transfer packages to other Symmetricom locations, including Beverly and San Jose, Calif.

Symmetricom's Irvine operation, originally known as Efratom, was founded in 1972 and purchased by Datum in 1995 from Ball Aerospace. Several industry firsts and patents were established by Efratom and Datum-Irvine. The Efratom Model FRK has been on display at the Smithsonian Institute as the world's first miniature atomic oscillator and the first atomic oscillator in orbital space. The company supplied physics packages to Rockwell for their GPS satellites which are still operational today and has supplied more than 35,000 rubidium oscillators to government and commercial customers worldwide.
