The ATIS TechThink Webinar will focus on the increasingly critical need for precise and highly available timing and synchronization as the migration to the Next Generation Network (NGN) and convergence continues.

This ATIS TechThink Webinar will examine major timing and synchronization issues and challenges facing service providers as they roll out new services and the NGN. Synchronization, an integral part of the physical layer of the TDM network, has ensured optimal performance, or QoS (Quality of Service) of the TDM transport layer. NGN services like IPTV and VoIP also need timing as a service requirement. Accurate timing is critical for QoS Measurement, billing and IPTV service delivery. At the same time, synchronization required by legacy services also needs to be provided even though the transport layer may be packet-based. Thus, timing and synchronization design must be considered upfront in the development of the converged NGN to ensure appropriate QoS for services that traverse wireline and wireless IP networks.

ATIS TechThink Webinar presentations will include:

* Key challenges and considerations of timing and synchronization in a hybrid TDM/IP and "all IP" environment.

* As service providers migrate to the NGN and all IP environments, how timing and synchronization infrastructure needs to evolve.
