Symantec to Acquire WholeSecurity; Behavior-Based Security Provides Real-Time Protection to Consumers and Enterprises.


CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC SYMC Symantec Corporation (stock symbol) ) today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire WholeSecurity, Inc., a leading provider of behavior-based security and anti-phishing technology. WholeSecurity's technology analyzes the characteristics and actions of viruses, worms and other malicious code to offer real-time protection Real-time protection, on-access scanning, background guard, resident shield, autoprotect, and other synonyms refer to the automatic protection provided by most antivirus, antispyware, and other antimalware programs, which is arguably their most important  against these threats without the need for traditional security signatures.
