Symantec Provides Fix Tool for Fast-spreading VBS.STAGES.A Worm.

Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC SYMC Symantec Corporation (stock symbol) ) has developed a tool to remove the changes to a computer system caused by VBS See VBScript. .STAGES.A, a new, fast-spreading polymorphic polymorphic - polymorphism  computer worm A computer worm is a self-replicating computer program. It uses a network to send copies of itself to other nodes (computer terminals on the network) and it may do so without any user intervention. Unlike a virus, it does not need to attach itself to an existing program. .

Available at www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/fix.vbs.stages.html, this tool removes VBS.STAGES.A infections from computers running on Windows 95/98, Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  and Windows 2000 systems.

Users can verify the digital signature in Symantec's VBS.STAGES.A tool at www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/fix.vbs.stages.html to ensure that the tool is legitimate in case they receive it via e-mail. The AntiVirus function is available as a separate product for home and business users or as part of various packages that contain other utilities such as Norton SystemWorks and Norton Internet Security. VBS.STAGES.A

VBS.Stages.A spreads itself like VBS.LOVELETTER.A, sending mail to a users' entire MS Outlook address book with a randomly generated subject line, which can overload mail servers. Additionally, the worm spreads itself via ICQ ("I Seek You") A conferencing program for the Internet from Mirabilis, Tel Aviv, Israel (www.icq.com). It provides interactive chat, e-mail and file transfer and can alert you when someone on your predefined list has also come online. , mIRC and PIRCH PIRCH Polargeek's Internet Relay Chat Hack  and copies itself to mapped drives. The subject line may be one of 12 combinations and in some cases begins with "FW." The subject line will contain either "Life stages," "Funny" or "Jokes" or several combinations of these. This worm immediately deletes copies of the sent emails to ensure there is no record of its presence.
