Sybase and Mendocino Software to Simplify Database Management; Two Companies to Raise the Bar for Functionality and Ease of Use in Recovery, Auditing, Testing and Reporting Management.

DUBLIN, Calif. & FREMONT, Calif. -- Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY) and Mendocino Software today announced development plans targeted at giving enterprise customers the highest level of functionality and ease-of-use for managing their database environments. The two companies plan to integrate Sybase's high performance database technologies, Sybase(R) Adaptive Server(R) Enterprise (ASE) and Sybase IQ, with Mendocino's flagship RecoveryONE(TM) solution, offering improved functionality to storage and database administrators.

The development efforts are targeted at creating a comprehensive set of database management tools that cover both single and multi-site environments. Business benefits will include: better database protection and recovery with less production impact and more flexible off-host processing; more reliable change management processes; easier heterogeneous data migration for database server and storage upgrades and consolidation; and streamlined data retention efforts for compliance and other purposes.

The companies intend to leverage Mendocino's "infinite snapshot engine" technology with Sybase's enterprise database solutions, including Replication Server(R), ASE and IQ, to streamline not only data protection operations, such as backup and recovery, but also administrative and maintenance processes. The joint solution will deliver intelligent database event tracking, transaction-oriented recovery capabilities and provide flexible ways to create database copies for administrative purposes with zero impact on production databases.
