 swimmer Lucy Townsend-Kennedy is going to great lengths to take part in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

Starting at the tender age of nine, the Rugby Swimming Club member says the activity - which is a hybrid of swimming, dance and gymnastics gymnastics, exercises for the balanced development of the body (see also aerobics), or the competitive sport derived from these exercises. Although the ancient Greeks (who invented the building called a gymnasium  - is a great way to stay fit and meet new people.

The sport has also taken her all over Europe to competitions.

Lucy said: "I've always dreamed of being an Olympic swimmer. I've trained with the West Midlands West Midlands, former metropolitan county, central England. Created in the 1974 local government reorganization, the county embraced the Birmingham conurbation and comprised seven metropolitan districts: Walsall, Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell, Birmingham, Solihull,  regional squad, qualifying to stay with the team last year.

"Synchronised swimming requires lots of hard work and commitment - which I think has influenced my personal approach to school studies." In addition to all the effort of training, Lucy also has to raise sponsorship for the 2016 games. Although the Rugby Swimming Club is responsible for the her training, Harris School's specialist sports tuition has helped her health, fitness, and nutrition.

 PE studies have proved really useful for my sport, while my sports teacher - Mr Hywell Davies - has drawn on his vast experience of training for a number of Iron Man competitions to give me lots of advice.

Lucy's other aim is to earn a PE degree, with the aim of using it to coach other sporting hopefuls.

She said: "I already do a bit of coaching with the younger members in the Rugby Swimming Club synchronised squad. It's really satisfying to pass on what I've learned over the last six years."
