Suzuki logs 31% profit gain in 1st quarter on strong domestic sales.

TOKYO, Aug. 2 Kyodo

Suzuki Motor Corp. said Wednesday it booked a group net profit of 24.47 billion yen in the first quarter of fiscal 2012, up 30.6 percent over a year earlier, thanks to an increase in domestic auto sales Auto Sales

 in the April to June period grew 39.4 percent to 35.65 billion yen on a 6.2 percent rise in sales to 644.77 billion yen, Suzuki said.

For the whole of fiscal 2012 to March 31, 2012, the automaker keeps its earnings projection unchanged -- 70 billion yen in net profit, up 29.9 percent from the previous year, and 120 billion yen in operating profit, up 0.6 percent, on a 3.5 percent sales increase to 2.6 trillion yen.
