Suzuki introduces two-wheel drive Sidekick Sport JS.

New Sport JS joins Suzuki's existing lineup of value-conscious

and durable compact SUVs

Two wheel drive or 2WD describes vehicles with a drivetrain that allows two wheels to receive power from the engine simultaneously.
 (2WD) sport/utility vehicle (SUV) -- a value-priced addition to the 1997 Sport lineup which includes the four-wheel drive Sidekick Sport JX and JLX.

Gary Anderson (born July 16, 1959 in Parys, Free State, South Africa) is a former American football placekicker.
, vice president of sales and marketing for American Suzuki Motor Corp.'s automotive division. "The JS gives Suzuki dealers an expanded SUV lineup with a broad range of rugged, reliable, feature-laden and attractively priced vehicles."

The Sport JS is powered by the smooth-revving, 1.8-liter, dual overhead cam, aluminum engine found in the JX and JLX. It generates 120 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 114 pound-foot of torque at 3,500 rpm. Equipped with Suzuki's five-speed manual overdrive transmission, the 1997 Sport JS will carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $16,699 and $17,699 when equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission.

Additional comfort and convenience features include a remote fuel filler door release, cloth trim seats, a split fold-down rear seat, dual cup holders and a remote keyless alarm system. A 100-watt, four-speaker stereo system engineered by Alpine is also standard on the JS.

In addition, the Sport JS offers a long list of standard safety features, including rear-door child safety locks, driver and front passenger air bags, reinforced side impact protection and daytime running lights. The vehicle is equipped with standard four-wheel power assisted brakes; four-wheel anti-lock brakes are optional.
