Sutmyn Storage Corporation (Sutmyn) today announced a series of new features for its Library Management Software (LMS(R)) Release 3.4, for use with the Scimitar(R)/Virtual Tape Server (VTS) and automated tape libraries (ATL (Active Template Library) A set of software routines from Microsoft that provide the basic framework for creating ActiveX and COM objects. Stemming from the standard template library (STL) that comes with C++ compilers, ATL includes an object wizard that sets up ). These new features will enable customers to leverage their existing IT investment, while obtaining the superior performance and added capabilities of Virtual Tape. These enhancements to LMS provide improved transition ease, user control options, tape cache migration, and various other features that support additional flexibility for systems administrators to direct data to Virtual Tape. LMS Release 3.4 will begin shipping in the first quarter of 1999.

With the release of LMS 3.4, Sutmyn offers LMS/ACS, an optional feature that provides users with DFSMS extensions for ACS (Asynchronous Communications Server) See network access server.  routines to direct data set allocation requests for both Virtual and ATL environments. Sutmyn's new LMS/ACS feature provides DFSMS users with the added benefit of utilizing their existing investment in ACS routines, while obtaining the benefits of LMS and Scimitar/VTS Virtual Tape solutions. As a result, customers gain a single point of control for tape resources and an easy transition from TMM TMM

 to virtual tape.

Additionally, LMS Release 3.4 now includes CacheXpander, a feature that increases the amount of effective Scimitar/VTS tape cache by utilizing more sophisticated cache control and migration algorithms. The CacheXpander feature provides customers with the benefits of: user-selectable parameters to control default tape cache migration operations, effective utilization of Scimitar/VTS tape cache and a simple user interface that prevents the unwanted migration of key data sets. Users will see dramatic improvements in performance with LMS Release 3.4, as important data remains resident in cache.

"While we continue to enhance our Virtual Tape offerings, Sutmyn continues to pursue the goal to allow users to reap more benefits from Virtual Tape technology easier than ever before," said Flavio Santoni, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, Sutmyn Storage Corporation. "These latest LMS software enhancements showcase our commitment and delivery on our promise and continue to make LMS the leader in ease of use, scalability, performance and customer satisfaction."
