Surplus river access site becomes waterfront park.


The community of Smithland, Ky., will have a scenic waterfront park Waterfront Park can refer to any of a number of parks on a river or other body of water, including:
  • Tom McCall Waterfront Park along the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
  • Louisville Waterfront Park along the Ohio River in Louisville, Kentucky, which opened in 1999.

Major river, eastern central U.S. Formed by the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, it flows northwest out of Pennsylvania, and west and southwest to form the state boundaries of Ohio–West Virginia, Ohio-Kentucky, Indiana-Kentucky, and
, thanks to the efforts of the National Park Service's Federal Lands to Parks program. About 90 acres were gifted to Livingston County Livingston County is the name of several counties in the United States:
  • Livingston County, Illinois
  • Livingston County, Kentucky
  • Livingston County, Michigan
  • Livingston County, Missouri
  • Livingston County, New York
  • Livingston Parish, Louisiana
 for recreation and public use. Formerly acquired and developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for boating access, the property will be operated as a community riverfront park and will be further developed with picnic tables and shelters. Currently, a boat launching ramp and open space comprise the park. Valued at an estimated $800,000, the property is significant because it provides Livingston County with its first boating access site. NPS NPS National Park Service
