Surplus federal land transformed into multi-use park.


The National Park Service's Federal Lands to Parks program transferred at no cost 73.76 acres to Hood County, Texas Hood County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. In 2000, the population was 41,100. Its seat is Granbury6. Hood County is named for John Bell Hood, a Confederate lieutenant general and the commander of Hood's Texas Brigade. , for public park and recreation use. This area will become the county's first multi-use regional park.

Formerly acquired by the Federal Aviation Agency for an air navigation air navigation, science and technology of determining the position of an aircraft with respect to the surface of the earth and accurately maintaining a desired course (see navigation).  facility, the property (valued at more than $258,000) will become a refuge for the community. Walking, hiking, horseback riding horseback riding: see equestrianism.  and nature trails will be created in addition to soccer fields, softball and football fields. A grassy area will be designated for special events and festivals.
