The Yankees have won their first seven games since the Major League Baseball All-Star Game The Major League Baseball All-Star Game, also popularly known as the "Midsummer Classic", is an annual baseball game between players from the National League and the American League, currently selected by fan vote for the starting position players and by the respective managers  mid-season break, improving to 57-45 and closing within three games of first-place Tampa Bay and two games of Boston in the AL East.

Pittsburgh sent the duo to the Yankees in exchange for four minor-league players - outfielder Jose Tabata and righthanded pitchers Ross Ohlendorf, Jeff Karstens and Dan McCutchen.

Nady was one of the top prizes in the transfer market because he is having a strong season for the struggling Pirates. Nady ranked fifth in the National League with a .330 batting average with 12 home runs and 57 runs driven in.

Nady also adds a much-needed fourth right-handed batter in the Yankees lineup.

Marte, who had been seeing duty as a closing relief pitcher with usual closer Matt Capps injured, is 4-0 with a 3.47 earned-run average this season and a career .198 average against him by left-handed batters.

The move is a return of sorts for Marte, briefly in the Yankees organization in 2001 before being traded to the Pirates for Enrique Wilson.
